Council for Leather Exports

 
Registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1956, the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), which was established in July 1984, functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India (GoI).
 
This autonomous, non-profit organisation with around 2,400 members is entrusted with the responsibility of export promotion and development of the Indian leather industry. Therefore, CLE bridges the gap between Indian leather exporters and consumers worldwide.
 
The major functions of CLE are as follows:
 
  • Offering technical, marketing and design assistance to Indian leather exporters
  • Disseminating information on current market trends, commercial and technological developments within the country’s leather industry
  • Encouraging joint ventures, strategic alliances and technical collaborations within the Indian leather industry
  • Serving as the connecting link between the government and the members of the leather industry
  • Organising buyer-seller meets in India and abroad, besides participating in major international trade fairs.
 
The organisation is headed by Habib Hussain, who is the chairman of CLE.
