Luxury lifestyle stores wooing consumers at airports

Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome!
With the launch of luxury lifestyle stores at the Indian airports, consumers can now easily purchase a wide range of products, thereby increasing retailers’ sales and client base

Luxury lifestyle stores are gradually gaining prominence in the country due to changing consumer preference, coupled with increasing consumer spending capacity. This has encouraged retail companies to expand their business by launching more such stores in India. In this regard, Craft House has taken a concrete step by opening ‘Delhi Bazaar’, an exclusive Indian store, at Terminal 3 (T3) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) inthe national capital.

In an exclusive interview with a Retailing360 correspondent, Monisha Gupta, president of Craft House, a premium retail brand and organisation in New Delhi, says, “Delhi Bazaar by Craft House will provide passengers a complete experience of India’s vast array of handicrafts from practically every state at the airport itself. It will provide a holistic shopping experience offering exclusively designed and developed Indian products—including handicrafts, tea, spices, décor accessories, spa products, pashmina, jewellery as well as ethnic wear—all under one roof at reasonable rates.”

Benefits of luxury stores at airports

With the launch of luxury lifestyle stores like Delhi Bazaar, ethic Indian products would be easily accessible to consumers from across the world at the airport, thereby helping retailers to fetch high profits.

According to Satyapal Sharma, managing director of Siddharth Global, a mid-sized manufacturer and exporter of apparel in New Delhi, “Luxury retail stores at the airport are likely to attract a lot of buyers, who are travelling and do not have enough time to purchase items from malls or retail stores. Therefore, this set-up will help retailers to not only boost their sales but also expand their client base.”

The concept of introducing retail stores at the airport has been adopted from foreign countries such as Singapore, Dubai and Bangkok, where airports are flooded with retail outlets. Consumers can purchase garments, footwear, jewellery, books etc from the airport itself. Therefore, in case a flight is delayed, consumers can spend their time purchasing certain items like souvenirs for family and friends. They can also purchase food items and drinks while waiting for their flights to arrive.
