The Bombay Store launches India Haat

Fair to provide opportunity to traditional artisans and craftsmen from across India to showcase their creations

Retail chain The Bombay Store is all set to launch the much awaited arts and crafts fair India Haat, which is aimed to showcase the immense diversity of the nation. The century old retailer, with its unique philosophy of ‘Discovering a New India’, is organising the fair this month.

On display at the India Haat will be ethnic Indian products that include footwear and garments. Available range of footwear includes ones with interesting gota work, beads and other traditional designs. Garments include ethnic lehengas, stoles, skirts, bikinis, corsets and cholis. Materials include cotton and silk and variety of print and traditional embroidery options are also available.

Speaking of the new initiative from The Bombay Store, company CEO Anaggh Desai said that the retailer has ensured that buyers have access to the best ethnic products from across India for over a hundred years. The India Haat is a tribute by The Bombay Store to the artisans and craftsmen that have contributed to its success, according to Mr Desai. He also said that similar initiatives will be taken throughout the year and every few months, artisans and crafts from one particular state will be highlighted through India Haat.

Capturing Rajasthan

In February this year the collection captures the tradition, culture, earthiness and ethnicity of the state of Rajasthan. Fusion and traditional products such as puppets, lac bangles, jewellery, bags, umbrellas and several other unique items with katha embroidery form part of the collection that highlights the rich culture and tradition of Rajasthan.

According to Mumbai based entrepreneur Shilpa Chatterjee, “The Bombay Store is one of the oldest and most trusted brands when it comes to purchasing traditional products. Since one of its oldest stores is located in one of the prime locations in the city, it is also very popular with travellers.”

With increasing retail presence and a strong following, The Bombay Store gives new hope to the micro industries of the country, especially the handicrafts industry.
